Family-owned since 1985
41 years, one family, one county
Lyn started BEST MOVE in Newbury Park in 1985. His nephew Gary runs the scheduling and the crews. Between them they still answer the phone, and Lyn still quotes most of the moves himself.

Why a 41-year-old moving company is unusual
Almost anyone can start a moving company. A truck, a phone number and a website is the whole barrier to entry, which is why the industry turns over constantly — and why the mover who gave your neighbour a great price three years ago may not answer the phone today.
BEST MOVE has been operating out of Newbury Park since 1985, under the same family, with the same name, licensed as CAL-T #188876. That is a matter of public record rather than a marketing claim, and you can check it.
What longevity actually buys a customer is narrower than it sounds, and more useful. It means the crew already knows the driveway on that street in Wood Ranch is too steep for a loaded truck. It means somebody here has moved a grand piano down a Knolls staircase before and can tell you on the phone whether yours will go. And it means that if something does go wrong, there is still a company here in six months to put it right.

The no-hidden-charges thing
Every mover claims transparent pricing. What we actually mean by it is a specific list of things that are inside our rate and are commonly billed as extras elsewhere — stairs, elevators, long carries, fuel, wardrobe boxes, mattress bags, and taking furniture apart and putting it back together.
Those line items are how a lowball quote becomes profitable on the truck. A mover quotes a rate that beats everyone, then the invoice arrives with a stair fee, a long-carry fee, a fuel surcharge and a materials charge, and the customer pays it because their belongings are already in the vehicle.
We price the whole job up front and we do not add to it. There is also no deposit to book a date — you should not have to put money down to find out whether a mover is any good.
The rate you are quoted is the rate you pay. There is no deposit, and nothing gets added once your things are on the truck.
Who you are actually hiring
When you call, you get Lyn or Gary in the Simi Valley office. Not a call centre, and not an answering service.
We're movers, not a broker.
A broker is a company that takes your booking and then resells the job to whichever independent crew bids lowest — you find out when a truck you have never heard of turns up, and nobody is accountable for what happens next. If you book BEST MOVE, BEST MOVE shows up: our crews, our people, our own trucks.
A broker sells your job to somebody else. If you book BEST MOVE, BEST MOVE shows up.
What we have become known for
The work has broadened over four decades, but what the company is built around has not moved.
First and foremost we are a residential moving company. Families moving across town: a three-bedroom in Wood Ranch to a smaller place near the Knolls, a Moorpark condo to a first house, a rental two streets over. It is the majority of what we do, it is what the crews do best, and it is what the company was set up to do in 1985.
No. 1
Residential moving — families moving across town — is the majority of the work we do.
Within that, our specialty is senior and retirement moving: families moving a parent into assisted living, independent living or memory care. It is almost always arranged by an adult son or daughter, it needs a completely different approach from a house move, and forty years in one county is the reason we are good at it. It is the work we are asked about most often by name.
Alongside both runs TRASH DAY, our junk removal division. It started because moving customers kept asking us to take away the things they did not want anymore, and it now runs on its own for realtors, contractors and property managers across the county. Usable furniture is donated and electronics recycled before anything sees a landfill — partly on principle, and partly because dumping costs more.
How it started
One truck, Newbury Park, 1985
Every moving company says it is family-owned. Here is the part that is harder to copy: the same family, the same town, and the same name since 1985.
-
1985
Lyn founded BEST MOVE
In Newbury Park. Family-owned from the first day and every day since — no sale, no franchise, no change of name. The base is Simi Valley now; the family is the same one.
-
Since
Out, then back in
The company grew to three locations across the county, then consolidated back to one in Simi Valley. Fewer buildings, the same crews, and a service area that now runs from Oxnard across to the West San Fernando Valley.

Today
Still the same phone
41 years, CAL-T #188876 and an A+ BBB rating — and Lyn still quotes most of the moves himself, with his nephew Gary running the crews.
The fleet has changed shape more than once across four decades, and so has the office. The name over the door has not, and neither has the family behind it.

Lyn wrote it, sang it and owns it. It went out into the world in 2022 and it has been stuck in a fair number of heads since.

The crews and the trucks
A crew here is anywhere from two to 10 people depending on the job — from a two-person crew for an apartment to bigger teams for a full house — and they will be inside your home for most of a day, handling everything you own. That is a lot of trust to extend to strangers, and it is the part of this business that actually matters.
Ours are trained on the things that decide whether a move goes well: how to wrap a piece before it leaves the room rather than in the driveway, how to plan a route through a doorway instead of improvising at the corner, how to bag and label hardware so furniture goes back together, and how to behave in someone's home.
We run more than one size of truck deliberately. Plenty of streets in this county — the Santa Susana Knolls, the Oxnard beach streets, some of the older Ventura hillside lanes — will not take a full-size vehicle, and the answer is the right truck rather than a longer carry you get billed for.
The specialty gear comes out when a job needs it: piano boards and skids, four-wheel dollies, ramps, crating for large TVs, and the blocking and strapping that goes into loading a portable container properly.
How the work actually arrives
Who calls BEST MOVE
Customers, then their parents, then their coworkers, then their neighbours. The company has stayed busy since 1985 on repeat customers and referrals rather than advertising — somebody moves, it goes well, and the next call comes from the person they told about it at work. That is the whole business model, and it is why a bad move costs us far more than it costs anyone who buys their customers.
