Why customers trust BEST MOVE

4.7

Just over the county line

About twenty-five minutes east on the 118, then south on Valley Circle. West Hills sits right against the Ventura County line, which makes it one of the shortest runs we have anywhere in Los Angeles County — and regular enough that the crews know the complexes a 26-foot truck cannot turn into.

Street by street

Long driveways, big garages, and gates that need a phone call

West Hills is older and more single-story than the rest of the west valley, and it moves accordingly. The furniture is rarely the hard part. The distance from the front door to anywhere a truck can legally stand, and forty years of accumulation in the garage, usually are.

  • Valley Circle and the western edge

The county line runs along here, which makes these the shortest runs we have in Los Angeles County — we are coming down from Simi Valley rather than across the valley. Larger lots, long driveways, and mature trees with low branches that decide where a full-size truck can actually stand.

  • The 1960s and 70s ranch tracts

Most of West Hills. Single-story, wide streets, easy driveway access, and the specific problem that comes with a house somebody has lived in for forty years: the garage, the attic and the side yard hold more than the house does. Tell us about those when you book and the estimate will be right.

  • The retirement and assisted-living communities

A real concentration of them, and the reason we work this side of the line as much as we do. Each has its own move-in window, insurance requirements and quiet hours, and the good ones enforce them. We call ahead and confirm all three rather than arriving and negotiating in a lobby.

  • Around Fallbrook and Sherman Way

The apartment and condo stock, and most of our stair carries in West Hills. Second and third floors, some without lifts, and complexes where a 26-foot truck cannot make the turn into the courtyard. We bring a smaller truck for those and do not charge extra for it.

  • The Bell Canyon side

Gated, and the gate is the job. Guard-list clearance, contractor hours and a single access road that a truck shares with everybody else. Give us the resident name and the move date a few days ahead and we will get the crew on the list rather than sitting at the kiosk.

  • Platt, Woodlake and the newer infill

Two-story homes with modern layouts and more stairs than the tracts around them. Good access, HOA rules in several sections about truck standing, and the oversized furniture that comes with a house built to a newer floor plan.

Tell us the cross streets and we will know the access before we arrive.

Why we work this corridor

Our largest single category of work is senior and retirement moving, and it has been for years. Camarillo built that side of the business in Ventura County. West Hills is the closest equivalent on this side of the line — an older, settled population, a real concentration of retirement and assisted-living communities, and families who are usually arranging the move from somewhere else.

That last part shapes how we work here. A large share of these calls come from an adult child in another state, which is why there is a toll-free number on this page and why we will walk a floor plan through on the phone rather than insisting on a visit. It is also why we set the new apartment up — beds made, television working, kettle findable — before the resident arrives rather than after.

The administrative note, same as Chatsworth: West Hills is City of Los Angeles, not Ventura County. Power and water are LADWP, refuse and bulky pickup are LA Sanitation, and kerb-space permits are LADOT. Parts of West Hills were historically on a private water utility, so check the bill rather than assuming.

And the practical one: get the gate sorted before the day. Bell Canyon and several of the communities need a crew on a list, and an hour lost at a kiosk is an hour on your invoice.

Questions

West Hills moving questions

More in the full FAQ.

Do you actually cover West Hills, or is this a service-area page?

We cover it, and it is one of our shorter runs — about twenty-five minutes down the 118 and south on Valley Circle from Simi Valley. Closer than Oxnard.

The number is (805) 375-0765, or (800) 797-1799 toll-free if you are arranging this from out of state for a parent. Lyn or Gary answers either one.

What does a move within West Hills cost?

Hourly, crew and truck included. Crews run from two to 10 people depending on the job — a two-person crew handles most of the apartments here, and a single-story three-bedroom is usually a bigger team and a day.

No stair fee and no long-carry fee, at either address. On the long West Hills driveways that is worth checking against any other quote you have.

My parent is moving into a retirement community here. Do you handle that?

It is a large part of what we do, and it is the reason we work this corridor. We confirm the community’s move-in window, their certificate-of-insurance requirement and their quiet hours before the date is set.

We also do the parts families find hardest: sorting what fits the new apartment, clearing what does not, and setting the new place up — beds made, TV working — before your parent walks in rather than after.

Which utilities do I need to contact?

West Hills is City of Los Angeles, so power and water are both LADWP rather than Southern California Edison and a Ventura County district. Gas is SoCalGas. Refuse and bulky-item pickup are LA Sanitation, and bulky pickup is free for residents.

Worth knowing: parts of West Hills were historically served by a private water utility rather than LADWP. Check your current bill rather than assuming — it is the one that catches people.

Can you get into Bell Canyon?

Yes, with notice. It is gated with a guard list and it has contractor-hours rules, so we need the resident name and the date a few days ahead to get the crew cleared.

Left to the morning, a crew can lose an hour at the kiosk — on an hourly job that is your hour, which is why we would rather sort it in advance.

Can you pack and load a storage container here?

Yes, and they are two separate services. You rent the container from PODS, U-Pack or whoever quotes you best; we pack your loose items into boxes if you want that, and we professionally load your container so nothing shifts when it is craned and trucked. Plenty of people pack their own boxes and book only the loading.

That is often the right answer during a downsize, when the new place is smaller and some of it needs to wait somewhere while the family decides.
