Straight answer first, because it saves you a phone call: BEST MOVE does not perform long-distance moves. We do not drive your belongings to Texas, Idaho or anywhere else out of the area, and we are not going to broker it to somebody who does. If a mover tells you they handle your cross-country move and then a truck arrives with a different name on it, that is brokering, and it is where most long-distance horror stories start.
Here is what we do instead, and it is genuinely the cheaper route: you rent a portable container, we pack and load it, the container company ships it. You pay us hourly for the crew and them for the transport — and that split is exactly why it costs less than a van line, which prices the whole thing on weight and distance.
The loading is not a formality. A container gets craned, set down, sat in the heat and trucked a thousand miles. What survives that is what was pad-wrapped, blocked and strapped. That is the part we do, and it is the part that decides what the far end looks like.
What we do, and what we do not
- We pack the house — boxes, paper, wrap, materials brought to you
- We load your portable container tight, blocked and strapped for the road
- We tell you how many containers you need before you order them
- We clear what should not be shipped first, through TRASH DAY
- We load a rental truck or trailer if you are driving it yourself
- We do NOT drive your goods out of the area
- We do NOT broker your move to another carrier
- We do NOT quote interstate transport — the container company does that
Step by step
How it actually goes
-
Decide what is actually going
Shipping something across the country costs more than replacing it more often than people expect. Work out what is not going before you price anything else — it changes the container count, which changes everything else.
-
Get quotes from the container companies
PODS, U-Pack, 1-800-PACK-RAT and the rest. Ask us for a container count first so you are comparing like with like. We take no referral fee from any of them, so there is nothing we gain by pointing you at one.
-
We pack and load it
Pad-wrap, box, load heavy-low, block and strap every tier. This is the day that decides whether things arrive intact.
-
They ship it, and you meet it
The container company handles the transit and the delivery date. If you need it unloaded at this end rather than that one — a move back, or a container returning from storage — we do that too.
Questions
Moving Out of the Area questions we get asked
Not the one you needed? The full FAQ covers pricing, moving day and what we will and will not move — or just call and ask.
So you really do not do long-distance moves?
Correct. We used to describe this as our "Get Out of California" division; we no longer perform the transport and we are not going to imply otherwise. We pack and load; a container company ships. If you want one company to do the whole thing, you want a van line, and we will say so.
Will you recommend a carrier?
We will tell you which companies our customers have had good and bad experiences with, and we take no commission from any of them. Get two or three quotes for your own dates — their pricing moves a lot by season and route.
What if my dates do not line up at the other end?
Most container companies will store your container at their facility for a monthly fee, which is usually the simplest answer. Ask them to price storage at the same time as transit so you are not surprised later.
Can you unload at the other end?
Not out of the area, no — that is the same limitation, honestly stated. Most container companies can arrange labour at the destination, and the good ones will tell you what that costs before you book.
What about a move within California but far away?
Ask us. Something within a reasonable drive is a normal hourly job. Beyond that the container route is usually cheaper anyway, and we will tell you which one your move actually is rather than quoting you for the one that pays us more.
No obligation
Leaving the area?
Tell us where it is going and roughly what is going. We will tell you how many containers that is and what the packing and loading will run — and if a van line is the better answer for you, we will say that instead.

You do not put money down to hold a date, and the rate you are quoted is the rate you pay. Stairs, long carries, fuel, wardrobe boxes and furniture assembly are all in it.
