41 years on the same street

Moving companies do not usually last. The barrier to starting one is a truck and a phone, which is why the industry churns constantly and why the mover who quoted your neighbour three years ago may not exist now.

BEST MOVE has been in Newbury Park since 1985, under the same family, with the same name. That is the single most useful thing you can know about us, and it is not a marketing claim — it is a matter of public record, and the company is licensed as CAL-T #188876.

What longevity actually buys you is not sentiment. It is that a crew who have done this in the Conejo Valley for decades already know that the driveway on that street is too steep, that this building requires a certificate of insurance, and that the hallway in that tract will not take a king box spring without a bend.

A crew that has worked this valley for decades already knows that driveway is too steep before anyone backs a truck up it.

Why it matters to you, not to us

It also means we are still here if something goes wrong. More about the company and the family.

The practical version: a crew running into Newbury Park is minutes from the Rancho Conejo office parks, from The Oaks and the Civic Arts Plaza, and over the Conejo Grade into Camarillo in about twenty. This valley is ground the crews know rather than territory they cover.

What forty-one years in one place actually buys you

  • Lyn and Gary, and a phone that gets answered by one of them rather than a call centre
  • Crews who have moved these tracts before and know which Dos Vientos streets a full-size truck cannot turn around on
  • The trucks, from full-size down to what fits a narrow street
  • Piano boards, skids, ramps and the specialty gear that does not travel unless the job needs it
  • Packing materials, brought to your door rather than sold in a shop

The Conejo Valley, from here

Knowing this valley is a practical advantage on the day, not a marketing line. These are all familiar ground:

  • Newbury Park
  • Thousand Oaks
  • Westlake Village
  • Agoura Hills
  • Oak Park
  • Lynn Ranch
  • Dos Vientos
  • Casa Conejo

The Conejo Valley

Where we work, and what each area needs

  • Dos Vientos Ranch

Hillside and master-planned, at the far western end of the city above Dos Vientos Community Park. Long climbs, curved streets, HOA rules about where a truck may stand, and larger two-story homes with the oversized furniture to match. The practical constraint is almost always the driveway grade rather than the distance.

  • Casa Conejo

One of the oldest tracts in the area — modest single-story homes on a flat grid, easy truck access, and a lot of original owners. These are the moves where the garage takes longer than the house.

  • Old Town Newbury Park

Mixed and older housing stock along the Ventu Park and Wendy corridors, either side of the old Stagecoach Inn, with narrower lots and the doorway-and-hallway constraints that come with mid-century construction. Disassembly earns its keep here.

  • Rancho Conejo

The business park side of the city, and the part of Newbury Park we know best — it is where the company spent its first decades. Most of our office moves in the Conejo Valley are along here, which is why we can schedule them tightly around a weekend.

  • Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village

The rest of the Conejo Valley, all short runs from here — from the streets behind the Civic Arts Plaza out to the hillside homes off Lynn Road and Westlake Boulevard. Gated communities with their own access rules, and a steady run of downsizing moves out of larger houses.

  • Agoura Hills and the 101 corridor

Over the county line into Los Angeles County, and a regular route for us. Being on this side of the Conejo grade means we are not billing you for an hour of freeway before the crew starts working.

What customers say

  • Hottest day of the year, and not one complaint

Best Move helped us with our move from Newbury Park to Woodland Hills. Our situation wasn’t the best, because there was no way to get a truck up the steep driveway at our new house. So, they had to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk everything up to the house. And, of course it was the hottest day of the year! But, they did an unbelievably fantastic job! Got everything up without a scratch and never once did we hear any complaints.

Two thumbs up to Lyn and Gary and their crews. Competitive and simple pricing. No hidden fees. My wife and I had a very good crew of three who worked efficiently and were very professional and polite. Highly recommend. Best Move is definitely the best.

Questions

Newbury Park moving questions

More in the full FAQ.

Where is BEST MOVE actually based?

Newbury Park is where the company started, in 1985. We are based in Simi Valley now — about fifteen minutes away — and Newbury Park has been on the schedule every week since.

The main line is (805) 375-0765 and it is answered by Lyn or Gary, not a call centre.

Do you still have a storage warehouse in Newbury Park?

We no longer run our own storage warehouse. What we do instead is pack and load portable containers — PODS, U-Pack, 1-800-PACK-RAT — so your things go into a container we have packed properly and the container company stores it. See our storage packing and container loading page for how that works.

Do you serve Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village?

Yes, and they are among our shortest runs — the whole Conejo Valley is close. Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills are all regular work for us.

This is where the company started, and the whole Conejo Valley is ground the crews know street by street rather than from a map.

How long has the company been in Newbury Park?

Since 1985 — 41 years, family-owned the entire time. Lyn founded it and still quotes most of the moves; his nephew Gary runs the scheduling and the crews.

The company has stayed busy on repeat customers and referrals rather than advertising, which is a slower way to grow and a much better way to survive four decades.

Can you handle a move out of a Dos Vientos hillside home?

Routinely. The constraint up there is driveway grade and street curvature rather than anything about the house — a loaded truck should not attempt some of those driveways, so we park where it is safe and carry.

Long carries are included in our rate, so the access does not change your price. It does change which truck we send, so mention the neighbourhood when you call.
