Oak Park is Ventura County, not Los Angeles County
About twenty minutes south on the 23. It looks like the valley and it runs straight into Agoura Hills, but the boundary between them is a county line. Oak Park is unincorporated Ventura County — the same county we have worked out of since 1985, and the reason a crew coming down the 23 is on familiar ground rather than guessing.
Street by street
Easy access, full garages, and a calendar set by the schools
Oak Park is a planned community, and it shows in the best way for a moving crew: wide streets, consistent layouts, driveways a truck can actually use. What varies is how long somebody has been in the house and what is in the garage — and when in the year you are moving.
-
Along Kanan Road
The spine of Oak Park and the way in and out. Everything we do here touches it, and the direction matters at the wrong hour — the commuter flow toward the 101 is the difference between a twenty-minute run and an hour on your clock. We schedule around it rather than sitting in it.
-
The 1970s and 80s tracts
Most of Oak Park. Planned, consistent, wide streets and driveways a truck can back into — genuinely among the easier access we deal with anywhere. The variable is not the house, it is how much has accumulated in the garage and the side yard over thirty or forty years.
-
The newer hillside sections
Built later and up the slope, with modern floor plans, more stairs and the oversized furniture that comes with them. Good access, and HOA rules in several sections about where a truck may stand and for how long.
-
The condos and townhomes
Shared drives, assigned parking a moving truck cannot use, and the occasional second-floor unit without a lift. We do not charge for stair carries, which is worth checking against any other quote you have — a per-flight fee is the usual way an apartment quote grows after the phone call.
-
The Agoura Hills boundary
The county line runs along here, and it is invisible on the ground. Houses that look like the same neighbourhood are in different counties with different utility and permit answers. If you are moving across it — in either direction — that is the thing to sort out first, and most people do not realise it applies to them.
-
Around the schools
Oak Park Unified is why a lot of families are here, and it sets the calendar. Late summer before the school year is the tightest window we have in this community — crews book out. If your date is flexible, a mid-week move outside that window is faster and cheaper.
Tell us the cross streets and we will know the access before we arrive.

Moving across the county line
A move between Oak Park and Agoura Hills is a two-minute drive and a complete change of paperwork. If that is your move — in either direction — sort these before the date:
- Utilities do not transfer across. Closing an account on one side and opening one on the other is two conversations, not one, and they are with different organisations.
- Refuse and bulky pickup are different services. Worth knowing before you leave a pile at the kerb expecting it to go.
- Permits, if you need kerb space held, come from different offices with different lead times.
None of that changes what we charge or how long the move takes. It changes how much of your week disappears afterwards, which is why it is worth five minutes now.
What moving here actually involves
Two things shape an Oak Park move more than the furniture does: the county line and the school calendar.
The county line is the one people do not see coming. Oak Park is unincorporated Ventura County; Agoura Hills, a few hundred yards down Kanan, is Los Angeles County. Same-looking streets, different water, different refuse, different permit office. A mover who assumes a valley address means LA County will give you the wrong answer with total confidence, and you will find out at the utility company.
The school calendar is the other. Families move here for Oak Park Unified, which means demand concentrates hard into the weeks before the school year and thins out afterwards. That is a real scheduling constraint rather than a sales line — if your date is flexible, moving outside that window gets you a better slot and a faster day.
The access itself is among the most straightforward we deal with. A planned community from the seventies onward means wide streets, sane driveways and layouts that repeat. On an hourly job, that is money back in your pocket before we start.

Is Oak Park in Los Angeles County?
No — and this is the single most useful thing to know when you move here. **Oak Park is unincorporated Ventura County.** It sits in the valley and it runs straight into Agoura Hills, which *is* Los Angeles County, but the line between them is a county line.
That means county services rather than a city hall of its own, and Ventura County rather than LA County for utilities, refuse and permits. It also historically meant police and fire responding from Thousand Oaks, about ten miles west, rather than from LA County next door.
If you are moving across Kanan from Agoura Hills, essentially every administrative answer changes even though the drive is two minutes.
So which utilities do I actually contact?
Power is Southern California Edison and gas is SoCalGas. Because Oak Park is unincorporated, the rest runs through Ventura County rather than a city.
**Check your water bill rather than assuming.** Water service in and around Oak Park is not the same provider as neighbouring communities, and we would rather tell you to look than give you a name that turns out to be wrong for your street. The links on this page are the right starting points.
How far are you from Oak Park?
About twenty minutes south on the 23 from Simi Valley — one of the shorter runs we have, and entirely within Ventura County.
The number is (805) 375-0765 and Lyn or Gary answers it.
Can you work around the school calendar?
Yes, and you should plan for it. Families move here for the schools, so the fortnight before the school year is the busiest window in this community and it books out first.
Call early for that window. Outside it, a mid-week date is easier to get and usually finishes faster because we are not working around traffic on Kanan.
What does a move within Oak Park cost?
Hourly, crew and truck included. Crews run from two to 10 people depending on the job — a two-person crew for a condo or an apartment, bigger teams for a house — and a typical Oak Park tract home is a single day.
No deposit to hold a date, no stair fee, no long-carry fee. The rate you are quoted is the rate you pay.
Can you clear the garage while you are here?
Yes — that is our TRASH DAY division and it runs on the same job. Flat-rate pickup, quoted upfront, donations and recycling go first, and it is almost always cheaper than paying to move something you were going to get rid of anyway.
On a house somebody has been in for thirty years, this is usually the part that decides how long the day takes.
