An apartment move is rarely decided by how much furniture you have. It is decided by the building — whether the property manager has your mover’s certificate of insurance on file, whether the service elevator is reserved for your window, how far the truck can get from the door, and how many flights are between the two.
That is also where the money goes. Most movers charge per flight of stairs, per long carry, and sometimes a flat fee for a "difficult access" job — which is how a quoted rate becomes a different final number. We do not charge for stairs or long carries. On a third-floor walk-up that is not a small difference.
We move studios through three-bedroom apartments and condos across Simi Valley, the Conejo Valley and the West San Fernando Valley, including the newer complexes off Cochran and Erringer and the large managed communities in Chatsworth and West Hills.
What's included in an apartment move
- Certificate of insurance issued for your building, naming the property manager, before move day
- Coordination with management on the elevator reservation and the dock or loading zone window
- Stair carries at no extra charge — no per-flight fee, at either end
- Long carries at no extra charge when the truck cannot get close
- Floor runners, door jamb pads and elevator pads so you do not lose a deposit
- Beds, desks and tables taken apart and rebuilt in the new unit
- Wardrobe boxes and mattress bags brought with the crew
- A smaller truck where a complex cannot take a full-size one
Step by step
How it actually goes
-
Send us the building rules
Most complexes have a move-in packet: insurance requirements, permitted hours, elevator booking, where a truck may stand. Send it when you book. Ninety percent of apartment-move problems are in that document and are entirely avoidable.
-
We issue the COI
We send the certificate to your property manager naming them as required, usually the same day. Buildings routinely refuse to release an elevator without it, and it is the most common reason a move day starts an hour late.
-
We look at the access, not the inventory
Which door, how many flights, how far from the truck to the door, whether the service elevator fits a couch upright. That is what sets the crew size and the time — not the number of bedrooms.
-
Protect the common areas first
Runners down, jambs padded, elevator pads hung. Damage to a hallway or a lift is charged to your deposit, not ours, so this is not a courtesy.
-
Load, move, place
Furniture goes into the room it belongs in and beds go back together. We do not leave a studio’s worth of boxes in the middle of the floor.
Questions
Apartment Moving questions we get asked
Not the one you needed? The full FAQ covers pricing, moving day and what we will and will not move — or just call and ask.
Do you charge extra for stairs?
No. No per-flight fee, no charge for a third-floor walk-up, at either end of the move. If you have a quote from someone else, this is the line to check — stair fees are commonly quoted per flight per mover, which compounds fast.
My building needs a certificate of insurance. Can you provide one?
Yes, at no charge. Send us the building’s requirements and the property manager’s details when you book and we will issue it, usually the same day. Most buildings will not let a crew touch the service elevator without one on file.
What if the complex will not fit a full-size truck?
We bring a smaller one. Plenty of older complexes and gated communities have turns or overhangs a 26-foot truck cannot make, and the answer is a different truck, not a longer carry you get billed for. Tell us the complex name and we will usually know.
Can you move me on a weekend or in the evening?
Yes, at the same rate — there is no weekend or after-hours surcharge. Some buildings restrict move hours to weekdays, though, so check your packet before you plan around a Sunday.
Do I need to reserve the elevator?
Usually the resident books it and we work to that window. Tell us the window when you book and we will size the crew to finish inside it. If the building lets us book it directly, we will.
What about a studio — is that too small a job?
No. Studios and one-bedrooms are a large part of what we do, and there is no minimum designed to make small jobs unprofitable. Two movers, a few hours, done.
