The west county

Coastal moves are a different job

Inland, the question is how much you have. Out here it is usually where the truck can physically stand, and how many stairs are between it and your front door. Add salt air that corrodes bed-frame bolts and a very large retirement population in Camarillo with gate procedures of its own, and the west county becomes its own kind of job.

  • Oxnard Shores, Hollywood Beach and Silver Strand

The hardest access in the county. Streets barely wider than a truck, no turnarounds, cars parked both sides, sand over everything and houses built up on stairs. We bring a smaller truck and shuttle, and we protect the stairs before anything goes down them. Plan a beach move for a weekday if you can — summer weekends the streets are impassable.

  • Mandalay Bay and the Channel Islands Harbor

Waterfront homes on the canals, often with the garage on one side and the living space up a flight. Narrow shared driveways and neighbours who need to get past matter more here than the weight of anything. Boat gear, dock equipment and outdoor furniture usually add more volume than people expect.

  • RiverPark and north Oxnard

Newer, denser and master-planned, on the blocks around The Collection at RiverPark — alley-loaded garages, shared driveways and townhomes with three levels of stairs. The stairs are the job. Everything else about the access is straightforward, and there is normally somewhere legal to put the truck.

  • Camarillo

Some of our steadiest work, and the most senior-heavy part of the county. Camarillo has a very large retirement population, including sizeable gated 55-plus communities with their own gate procedures, quiet hours and contractor rules. We know to call ahead for gate access rather than arriving and waiting.

  • Ventura

Hillside homes above the Avenue and off Foothill with steep and stepped approaches, plus older midtown bungalows with narrow doors and no driveway. The Keys are their own case — waterfront, tight, and best done on a weekday morning.

  • Port Hueneme and the base

Regular military moves in and out around Naval Base Ventura County, which run on their own timelines and paperwork. Housing is generally easy to move — flat, accessible, and built for it.

Tell us the cross streets when you call and we will already know what the access looks like.

Camarillo, retirement moves and downsizing

Camarillo is a large part of why we are out this way so often. It has one of the largest retirement populations in Ventura County, including substantial gated 55-plus communities, and that produces a steady flow of exactly the moves we specialise in: downsizing out of a family home, moving into independent or assisted living, and clearing the house afterwards.

Those communities almost always have rules — gate procedures, quiet hours, restricted move-in windows, sometimes a required certificate of insurance. We confirm all of it with the community office before move day rather than sending a truck to argue with a gatehouse.

If you are arranging this for a parent, the senior, retirement and assisted-living moving page walks through the whole process — including what to have ready before you call anyone.

What customers say

  • Our driveway was too steep — they brought a second truck at no cost

We used Best Move this weekend, and they were outstanding. Low price for 4 movers and a truck, including garment boxes, moving boxes, the works. No hidden charges. Our driveway turned out to be too steep for the truck, so they brought in another truck for no extra cost. Even when I changed my mind (many times), and they had to move heavy furniture up and down extra steps, they were kind, patient, and totally professional. I’ve moved many times and despite the challenges of my property, they were the best! I’ll refer them with my highest recommendations.

Questions

Oxnard moving questions

More in the full FAQ.

Do you serve Camarillo and Ventura as well as Oxnard?

Yes. Oxnard, Camarillo, Ventura and Port Hueneme are all regular work for us — crews run out from Simi Valley. The number is (805) 375-0765 and Lyn or Gary answers it.

The west county is regular ground for us rather than an occasional trip, which is why the crew that turns up already knows the beach streets and which of them a full-size truck cannot get down.

Can a moving truck get into Hollywood Beach or the Silver Strand?

Not a full-size one, on most of those streets. They are narrow, parked solid on both sides, and offer nowhere to turn a 26-foot truck around.

We stage a smaller truck close to the house and shuttle to a larger one, or work the whole job out of the smaller vehicle. It takes a little longer and it is the only way to do it properly. Long carries are included in our rate, so the access does not add a fee.

Do you move people into the 55-plus communities in Camarillo?

Regularly. Camarillo has one of the largest retirement populations in Ventura County and a great deal of our work here is people moving into and out of gated 55-plus communities, independent living and assisted living.

Those communities generally have gate procedures, quiet hours and move-in windows. We confirm all of it with the office before the day rather than arriving and negotiating at a gatehouse.

Does salt air and sand affect a beach move?

It affects how we wrap rather than whether we can do it. Furniture gets fully padded and shrink-wrapped before it leaves the house so sand and salt spray never touch upholstery, and the truck stays closed between loads on windy days.

If your furniture has been in a beach house for years, expect more corrosion on hardware than you would inland — bolts on bed frames and outdoor furniture sometimes have to be cut rather than turned. The crews carry what they need for that.

Do you handle moves around Naval Base Ventura County?

Yes, in and out of Port Hueneme and the surrounding housing. Base moves often run on fixed dates with their own access requirements, so tell us the timeline when you call and we will build the schedule around it.

Can you store furniture between two coastal escrows?

Not our own, no — we do not run a storage warehouse any more. What we do is pack and load your portable container so nothing shifts, and unload it when it comes back. You rent the container from PODS, U-Pack or whoever quotes you best, which is also the cheaper route.
